Don’t Tread On Me – First U.S. Navy Jack

U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Afghanistan (COMUSVANCENT) is authorizing the wearing of a non-colorized subdued version of the U.S. Navy Jack patch on all occasions where the ACU/FRACU uniform is authorized within the COMUSNAVCENT AOR. Navy personnel can procure and wear a subdued version of this First U.S. Navy Jack in patch version.

The First U.S. Navy Jack consists of a rattlesnake in the foreground with the motto Don’t Tread On Me inscribed below on a background of 13 alternating red and white striped bands as in the flag of the United States of America.
The Don’t Tread On Me slogan is also used on The Gadsden Flag and The Culpeper Minutemen Flag, all three flags being historical flags dating to the American Revolution and before.

The First U.S. Navy Jack can be pictured in this article. More history regarding the First U.S. Navy Jack, Don’t Tread On Me, and The Gadsden Flag can be found at www.navyjack.com or www.gadsdenandculpeper.com

The memo goes on stating that any U.S. Army commander directing the wear of any other patches by Navy personnel will supersede in uniform wear.
